Hunkeler visitors captivated by Ricoh production quality

Representatives of local companies were impressed by the quality of the Ricoh VC60000 Ricoh showcased at Hunkeler Innovationdays (HID) 2015, and visitors were also attracted by the software solutions displayed. The VC60000 is the first fully Ricoh-developed digital press following the acquisition of Hitachi Printing Solutions in 2004 and in 2007 the joint venture with IBM that gave rise to the InfoPrint Solutions Company, which was wholly acquired in 2010. ‘This is the first time that most companies from the South African market have seen the VC60000 in operation and they were universally impressed by the quality of material it produced,’ said Vaughan Patterson, of the Production Printing Business Group at Ricoh SA. ‘They also appreciated the demonstrations that positioned the powerful and relevant software solutions. In fact, visitors spent a great deal of time with the software solutions this year so there is clearly interest in extending services and solutions for their customers based on the engines.’ Software solutions on display included: •TotalFlow BatchBuilder – this was the first public showing in Europe of the easy-to-adopt, standalone hardware-agnostic production management tool designed to batch print jobs in the most efficient manner; •TotalFlow Ricoh Process Director – a configurable output process management system driving high-speed continuous-feed production printers; and •MarcomCentral – a cloud-based (SaaS) Web-to-print solution that automates creation, printing, management and distribution of marketing collateral and campaigns, including variable data communications. Ricoh generally had many commercial printers making their first foray into digital, publishers looking for proven inkjet colour and monochrome offerings, and service bureaux in need of better batching solutions, among other interested people. Among the hardware demonstrated were also the Pro C9100, the InfoPrint 5000, and the Pro C7100X with examples of ranging from trade books and marketing collateral to coffee table books. ‘The market reaction to the Ricoh Pro VC60000 has been exceptionally positive,’ said Stephen Palmer, head of production print, Ricoh UK. ‘It has become clear that the breakout innovations offered by this outstanding addition to our portfolio will enable operations to embrace market growth opportunities and production efficiency benefits.’ Caption: Ricoh Pro VC60000
