Europe´s best digital production tools

The European Digital Press (EDP) Association has announced the winners of its eighth EDP Awards. With more than 120 entries suppliers to the digital industry in Europe had submitted their latest developments. Finally 28 products were awarded with a best of trophy in its category. ‘The amazing number of altogether 60 nominated products by the Technical Committee of EDP shows the innovation power in our digital industry,’ said Rudolf Messer, EDP president, in his welcome address stressed. And Neil Felton, CEO of Fespa Association, confirmed that the industry´s innovating power was also the reason why so many visitors are attracted to their Fespa Digital events every year. ‘Our shows are the number one marketplaces for new technologies – and the showroom for new applications – and the EDP Awards are a well reputed instrument of decision guidance for the user of all these new technologies.’ Rudolf Messer also utilised the fact, that more than 70 representatives of supplying companies were present at the EDP Awards Ceremony to strike a blow for the position of trade magazines as such. ‘We listen to your press conferences, receive your press releases and are the means of transport for your messages to the potential customers – and all this usually free. But we need to have an income as well to cover all our expenses. Therefore, when you have your next budget discussions – please think about this fact, as well. Just imagine: there is news to be distributed – and there are no more trade magazines for spreading the message…’ The EDP Association The EDP Association was founded in 2006 by six trade magazines with main editorial focus on digital print and production. Now the EDP Association counts 20 member magazines all over Europe, covering 25 countries and reaching more than half a million of readers in Europe – with Print Plus magazine from Kiev, Ukraine, as latest EDP partner. One of the goals of EDP Association was the idea, of assisting the technology appliers in their task to find the right solution for their applications. Because not every high tech production tool eventually meets the requirements in a demanding production environment. The judging process As soon as a product is submitted for the EDP Awards contest the evaluation process starts and the members of the Technical Committee investigate the product´s features and qualities – by consulting external experts as well. At the end of the submission period the Technical Committee nominates the best ones in a category for the final judging round. In a special EDP General Assembly (this year in Brussels) representatives of all the member magazines discuss the quality again – also under aspects such as value to the user, support and service and other arguments. They finally decide which product is worth being awarded an EDP Trophy. The next submission period for the EDP Awards 2014/2015 has already started for all products announced from April 1st 2014 onwards and will end by February 28th 2015.
