Since 2005 Falcon has emerged as a leading supplier and cemented itself as a strategic role player in the Southern African region. With a national footprint of 10 outlets, Falcon is a brand synonymous with quality products, and stays true to its ethos of continuous development across all spheres of its business.
Not immune to the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic, Falcon has used this trading environment to look internally and concentrate on their strengths by investing in people, services and solutions that better equip them to be a sustainable, competitive supplier of quality goods and services into the industry.
If Falcon could give their customers a sneak preview into the “behind the scenes” at the company, you would see that they have invested in web development and software that will see them launch a new look and interactive online retail platform. They are cognisant of the e-commerce growth in the printing and signage industry and believe that making the current site easier to navigate from viewing products, technical data, stock availability, pricing, quoting and placing your order online to finish the process by “checking out” with a basket of goods, will shorten the turnaround time and improve on customer experience. The online system will allow their experienced staff to now interact with customers more strategically and concentrate on improving services required to build and sustain their customer relationships. The new Falcon platform is planned to launch in Q2 2021.
In 2020 Falcon navigated through the challenges of stock requirements but they did not want to compromise on quality of products, and so they had to be fluid with their global suppliers, still experiencing the effects of international and national “lockdown rules” that strained the supply chain coupled with the global shortages of containers leading to port delays across the globe. The negative impact of product shortages through 2020 has hopefully seen its conclusion with most suppliers back up to 100% capacity and port delays reducing ever so slightly.
However, once again they used the opportunity to strengthen their supplier / partner relationships with key brands such as ORAFOL, HEXIS, 3A Composites, Mitsubishi Shinkolite, R-Tape, Stahls and several other key partners.
Paramount to their success is the development and welfare of their people. They are training and up skilling their workforce to enable them to strengthen the relationships with their customers and embrace remote access to them. As part of this development and tools they are introducing a CRM program along with an upgrade to their ERP systems, to bring about ease of processes with the aim of making business easier.
The Coronavirus pandemic has brought about an awareness of how fragile we are as humans, and so they positioned themselves to endeavour to be part of a solution to curb the spread of this virus and other viruses. Firstly, by being a compliant and responsible trader in the South African economy whilst using their global network to research solutions. It was through this research that they interacted with Hexis Health, as part of the Hexis portfolio of partners and came across a product that has been proven and successfully tested to reduce the viral load of specific viruses on “touch” surfaces covered with an antimicrobial film called PURE ZONE ANTIMICROBIAL FILM ®.
The product tested under conditions as set out in ISO 21702 (2019) with adaptive conditions of testing after 15 minutes and 60 minutes, showed conclusively that the viral load of the coronavirus strains SARS-CoV-2 reduced up to 76% after 60min, the strain HCoV -229E reduced by 94.99% after 15min and 99.87% after 60min. Tested under conditions according to ISO 22196 the product is confirmed to reduce bacteria by >99.99% and this includes Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Listeria, Golden staph, Methicillin – resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The HEXIS Group, French manufacturer of adhesives, announce that their PURE ZONE® technology is active in combating the viral load of coronaviruses* including SARS-CoV-2*.
PURE ZONE® films contain silver ions encapsulated in a glass matrix and distributed evenly throughout the film.
In contact with humidity, these reactive silver ions are activated from the surface layer and will quickly block and inhibit microbes, thus limiting their proliferation between two cleaning and disinfection protocols.
* HCoV-229E, SARS-CoV-2 Colcov (according to ISO 21702)
Falcon is so confident in the product application and performance according to specifications, that they have secured the supply in South Africa under the brand name Hygiene Zone ®.
Hygiene Zone ® is available through all Falcon outlets and to find out more on how you can “make touch safe again”, make your zone safer for you, your family and your customers, scan the QR code below and it will link you to their website. Hygiene Zone ® is a secondary barrier of protection to your standard COVID 19 protocol as laid out by legislation and does not replace it. Once again Falcon’s vision is long term and with the Hygiene Zone ® product, they want to bring first world technology to ordinary South Africans.

Their message for 2021 is no different to many countries, nations and companies worldwide and it is one of HOPE.
Message from UniPlate CEO:
2020 is a year that will be defined by the global impact of COVID 19, I believe this quote from Philip Yancey best sums up what we as mankind had to encounter at some point, “the more success a culture has, the more difficult it is for individuals to make sacrifices for the good of the whole. It creates a soft society that is ill equipped to handle the adversity that will inevitably come”. Rewind 10 months ago and the whole world was almost clueless on how to handle this adversity that was cast upon us but also in that time of adversity, it presented opportunities for all of mankind and as well as businesses to reflect on where we are and what will the future hold.
Fast forward to 2021, we are filled with hope that things are slowly improving and business confidence is getting stronger each day. Falcon, like most businesses, has used this time during 2020 to set ourselves up to stand strong and take advantage of the opportunities that presented itself. This was to enable us to build a more robust and customer focused route to market, a plan that will enable us to service our key partners with long term sustainability whilst bringing innovative solutions in a world post COVID.
